Jean D. Preston, a long-term resident of Birmingham, AL., went to her heavenly home Thursday July 27, 2023. She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great- Grandmother, Christian and friend to anyone she met.
Preceded in death by her Mother Katye Ray Dunlap, Father Frazier Jackson Dunlap, husband Dr. Frank(Cap. U.S. NAVY) R. Preston, Sister Doris Sue Dickinson, and stepson, Frank R.Preston II.
She is survived by her sons William E. Waterhouse III ( Nan) of Hoover,Al; Michael J. Waterhouse( Jerri ). Of Birmingham, AL, W. Scott Waterhouse( KT ) of Willow Springs, N.C., Grandchildren J.Nicholas Waterhouse (Dee), Ashley Waterhouse Bramblett; Great-grand children Tristin, Randilynn Dobbins (Jackson), Madison, Kathryn, Savannah, Cameran and Will; Stepson Richard N. Preston, Stepdaughters Dr.. Sandra Hanson and Susan Greene- Preston.
Jean graduated from Woodlawn H.S. and attended Howard College (later to be Samford University) and was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She had a long and distinguished career as an Executive Secretary at U.S. Pipe & Foundry and Jim Walter Resources. One of her passions was her strong faith and being a life long member and volunteer worker for Ruhama Baptist Church and the Ruhama Family. She was known for her sense of style and love of travel; especially her beach trips with Susan and Sandra. And she was known as a great storyteller; recounting with amazing detail events from her from childhood on. Some of the best being of her times with life-long friends Julia, Jean and Lena. Central to her life was her love of The Lord and family; always there with leadership and unlimited support.
The family invites you to join them for a memorial service which will take place on Tuesday, August 1 at The Church at Liberty Park in Vestavia Hills, AL. Visitation at 10:00 am and service at 11:00am; followed by a graveside service at Forest Crest Cemetery, 5730 US-78 Birmingham AL 35210.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Samford University Legacy League Ruhama Scholarship in remembrance of Jean D. Preston.
