He was a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School and a US Navy Veteran serving on the USS Blue Ridge. Johnny was a retired Postmaster with the US Post Office. He was also a member of Church of the Highlands Tuscaloosa Campus. Johnny faithfully served the church leading small groups and also served with Blackaby Ministries for more than 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Louise Estes. Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Connie Estes; his children: Beverly (Robert) Williams, John R. Estes, Jr., Emily (Keith) Stone, Tara (Scott) Anders and Bradley (Karla) Hodges; grandchildren: Annalee (Joseph) Snyder, John R. Estes, III, Addison Estes, Evan Stone, Ethan Stone, Silas Stone, Spencer Anders, Parker Anders, Madalyn Anders, Emma Hodges and Ella Hodges; brothers and sister: Butch (Lauralee) Estes, Elizabeth (Kenny) Sullivan and Jeff (Melissa) Estes.
His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home in Northport AL. The family will receive friends Thursday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Johnny will be laid to rest at 1:15 PM following the funeral service in Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Highway 119, Montevallo, Alabama 35115-8632.
