He was a graduate of Phillips High School and attended Birmingham Southern College and the University of Alabama. He proudly served his country in the United States Army in France and was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, June Greene Smith; his daughter, Melanie Leigh Smith; and his mother, Nella Fowler Smith.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Kimberly June (Hugh) Ilenda; his special friend, Julia Caddell; and Julia’s sons, Paul (Jonnie) Caddell; and Pat (Kathy) Caddell; along with their families. It brought Johnny joy to be a special grandfather to Bobby, Lindsay, Claire, and Christopher. He is also survived by a host of extended friends and families.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel on Sunday, October 28, 2018, at 2:00 pm with a visitation from 1-2 pm.
