With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph Dale Davis, lovingly known as “Joe,” who left this world too soon after a courageous 3½-year battle with stage 4 colon cancer. Joe passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, surrounded by love.
Born on April 25, 1965, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Harold “Bob” Davis and Dorothy “Dot” Davis, Joe was a 1983 graduate of Huffman High School. He attended Jeff State for two years; where he had received a scholarship for music and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Joe had a lifelong passion for computer technology and innovation, dedicating many years to his work as a software engineer. Most recently, he served as a Senior IT Architect at Protective Life Insurance.
Joe was quiet and introspective, with a keen eye for observing life and people. He possessed a wonderfully quirky sense of humor and was known for his spot-on, hilarious impersonations of celebrities and politicians. His fierce intelligence allowed him to engage in thoughtful conversations on topics ranging from sports to the arts. Joe loved music and played saxophone in his younger years and was a member of the Jeff State Singers, where he was able to showcase his beautiful baritone voice. He loved most all kinds of music, especially Andrea Bocelli. A lifelong fan of Ford Mustangs, he was thrilled to win a contest allowing him to purchase the limited 60th edition Mustang—one of only 1,965 produced—for his 60th birthday. He and his beloved wife, Kathy, enjoyed taking drives around town in their Mustang, affectionately named “Salllie.”
Joe was a devout member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover, Alabama, where he proudly served as a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy “Dot” Davis and Harold “Bob” Davis.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen “Kathy” Davis; brothers, Clifford Davis (Lisa) and James Davis (Valerie); sister, Paula Davis-Olwell (Patrick); brother-in-law, Greg Watts (Lara); sister-in-law, Kim Cook (Ted); father-in-law, Harvey Watts (Bonnie); mother-in-law, Patricia Watts; nephews, Brandon Trucks (Ashley), Austin Watts (Breanna), Dylan Watts, Colton Watts, Matthew Olwell (Emily), and Aaron Olwell (Katie); nieces, Anna Roberts (Nate), Jordan Crane (AJ), Lauren Jones (Chris), Rebecca Geise (Austin), Amelia Davis, and Sophie Davis; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Joe also leaves behind a circle of cherished friends, whose love, laughter, and support meant the world to him.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover, Alabama, followed by a Celebration of Life and Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Joe will be interred in the church’s columbarium. The family invites all to remain for a reception at the church following the Mass to share memories and honor the life of a man who loved deeply.
Joe will be missed beyond measure, but his legacy of love, kindness, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
