LaVerne was welcomed into the world by loving parents Leo and Verna Tyson on May 28, 1926. Growing up in Trussville she graduated from Hewitt High in 1944. As she grew to adult hood she was called to serve others. In order to fulfill this calling she became a member of the Cadet Nurse Corp during WWII and obtained her R.N. from South Highlands Infirmary School of Nursing in 1947. In 1947 she married Frank R. Brown and together they raised a family of eight (8) children. Though a devoted mother and home maker she continued her nursing career. She worked at various hospitals all over the country and spent the last twenty (20) years of her career caring for geriatric patients, those that could no longer care for themselves. It was what she felt she was meant to do. LaVerne used her education and career as an example to other women, especially young women, that you need to have an education and a career of your own. There will come a time that you need to work in order to support or help to support yourself or your family. She was an advocate for education and independence for women before the feminist movement was born. She inspired her children and grandchildren to strive for excellence. She is proceeded in death by her husband Frank her sons Gene and Robert and her daughter Mary. She is survived by her children Frank (Susan, deceased) Brown, Earl (Mary) Brown, Cathy (Sam) Jones, James Brown and Rebecca Brown; along with 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great, great granddaughter.
