Leroy McFarland, Jr. was born on March 15, 1947, to Leroy McFarland, Sr. and Fannie Pace McFarland. As the first-born son, he attended Birmingham Public Schools and in 1963 Leroy went to work for Elmwood Cemetery and later Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel. He served the company for a total of 56 years until his retirement. He married Sarah Bibb on December 10, 1967, and to this marriage three children were born.
Leroy was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth; grandsons: Jerome and Justin; his parents; two sisters and brother. Left to cherish his memory; his wife of 57 years, Sarah; son, Leroy, III and daughter Sharon of Birmingham; his grandson, Donald (D.J.) of Birmingham; his baby sister, Theresa of Birmingham; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Leroy loved the outdoors, yard work and driving. One of the things that thrilled Leroy, Jr., was that his father did not have a birth certificate, so he chose Leroy, Jr’s March 15th birthday as his own.
A visitation for Leroy will be held Tuesday, April 22, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Johns-Ridout's Mortuary-Elmwood Chapel. His graveside service will occur Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 11:00 AM at Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum in Birmingham.
