Cricket was born on February 23, 1936, in Decatur, Alabama. She graduated from Shades Valley High School and attended Birmingham-Southern College as a music major. In 1955, she married the love of her life, Donald Parker. Gifted in music, especially the piano, Cricket shared her talents throughout her life and was still playing for church services at her residence in Town Village.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Cricket always put her family first. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Parker, as well as her parents, Maggie Evelyn Richards and Alvin Merritt Richards. She is survived by her two daughters, Connie Hobson (Will) and Donna Ivy (Jim); five grandchildren, Wick Hobson (Kim), Parker Hobson, Peyton Hobson (Chris), Mandy Makin (Trenton), and Maggie Ivy; and three great-grandchildren, Wolf Hobson, Mary Hobson, and Phoebe Hobson-Butz.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, April 1, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Church of the Highlands (Grants Mill Campus).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Compassus Hospice.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to St. Vincent’s Hospital, especially the doctors and nurses on the third floor, for their compassionate care.
She will be deeply missed but forever cherished in our hearts.
