Marion Edward Matthews

Marion Edward Matthews (Ed) age 95, born January 13, 1928 died peacefully at his home on Wednesday afternoon, August 16, 2023. He is preceded in death by his mother and father; one sister, Helen Massey.

After the start of WWII, Ed enlisted in the Navy at a young age. After serving in the Navy, he served in the National Guard. He spent his career as a Fireman in the Birmingham Fire Department and received the honor of Fireman of the year in the mid 70’s.

Ed leaves behind his wife, Jessie, of almost 68 years; three children, Denise Boshell (Mike), Kim Farrar (Rick) and Jeff Matthews. Ed leaves behind his loving grandchildren; Amy Boothe (Jim), Ashley McCombs (Shawn), Adrian Thomas (Phillip), Matt Farrar (Natalie), Giancarlo Puerto (Allana) and Anthony Matthews. He has 8 precious great grandchildren and 3 adorable great-great grandchildren. His legacy of love will live on in his family who will miss him greatly.

A graveside service for Ed will be held Sunday, August 20, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Elmwood Cemetery, 600 martin Luther King, Jr Drive, Birmingham, AL 35211.
