

Mary Ann Turner (Ann) age 88 of Trussville, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2020. She died this week but her spirit and gifts live on in her 3 daughters, Andrea Turner Payne (Jim), Tovia Turner McWhorter (Doug), Penny Turner Yarbrough (James), and her son, Skip Turner (Susan); 9 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. She was born on May 22, 1931, in Union Town, Alabama. She was raised on a farm in rural Alabama during the Depression Era. She met and married Pierce Turner in 1947 and they moved to the Birmingham area where they raised their family.
Ann was active in the First Baptist Church of Trussville until her health prevented her active participation. Ann was a devoted volunteer where she worked tirelessly serving Wednesday Night Supper. She was dedicated to leading the ceramic class ministry at the church and loved showing her talent for ceramics and her love of God with others. Many young girls in Trussville flourished under leadership in Girl Scouts. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years and held several leadership positions in the council. Ann volunteered many years with the Trussville baseball and softball leagues where she served as a coach and scorekeeper. Ann’s love and skill in gardening was legendary. Her family and friends were grateful recipients of her efforts. Not only did she excel at growing vegetables, but she had beautiful flower gardens. One of her favorite pastimes was fishing. She had a knack for catching the big ones. Ann’s true passion was her family, especially her beloved late husband, Pierce. They were married for 65 years. She was happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Family will be receiving visitors and friends at 1:00 PM Friday, March 6th at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel with a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville, AL.
