

Mary Evelyn Smith, a truly kind and generous soul whose beauty shone both inside and out, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on May 9, 1948, Mary Evelyn lived a life dedicated to her faith, family, and community, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Mary Evelyn was a proud graduate of West End High School. Following her education, she embarked on a fulfilling career at Torchmark/Liberty National, where she dedicated many years before her well-deserved retirement.
Her deep love for the Lord was evident in every aspect of her life. She reflected Christ’s love through her boundless compassion and unwavering service to others. A devoted, long-time member of North Highlands Baptist Church in Hueytown, Alabama, the church held a truly special place in her heart.
Beyond her spiritual devotion, Mary Evelyn cherished simple pleasures. One of her favorite pastimes was enjoying good food at great restaurants, and her absolute favorite was The Bright Star in Bessemer, Alabama, a place that brought her much joy.
Mary Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Dewey Smith Jr. and Sara Couch Smith; her brother, James A. Smith (Artie); her sister, Jane E. Smith (Janie); and her nephew, James M. Smith (Jimmy).
She is survived by her loving sister, Paula Bentley (Ernie); her cherished nieces, Ashley Mullinax (Asher), Heather Binney (Brad), and Stephanie Bentley; and her sister-in-law, Sandra M. Smith. Mary Evelyn also leaves behind her great-nephew, Will Mullinax, and great-niece, Cheyenne Posey, and great-nephew, Colten Posey, who will carry on her legacy of kindness.
