
THORNTON, MARY ELVA, age 91, of Trussville, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, George Dewey Thornton; and her first born son, James H. Upton. She is survived by her son, Mike Upton (Brenda); daughter-in-law, Diana Bradford (Jerry); step-son, George Thornton (Cheryl); 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mary has lived in Birmingham all her life. She lived in Trussville for several years and was real close to Irving and Beckie Nash, and she spent a lot of time at the library to check out books and visit with her good friend, Brenda Brasher. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Trussville. Mary moved from Trussville to FairHaven and lived there for four years. She made lots of friends and found old friends she went to school with. She lived in room #1 and we called her Queen Mary. Her family will receive friends on Saturday, March 23, 2013 from 12:30-2 at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel with her service beginning at 2. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
