Matthew Cassidy Goodwin, age 42, passed away May 24, 2015. Matt was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on February 3, 1973. He was the beloved son of Julie and Darrel Loggains and Daryl E. Goodwin. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bessie and Bud Moore and Bob Bumgardner. He is survived by his parents; his grandmother, Martha Holt; his adored nephew, Cody Loggains; and his step-brother, Chad Loggains (Suzzette).
For two years, Matt served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego. He formerly studied at The Culinard, and he was a talented cook. Currently, he lived in Mobile, Alabama, where he was studying welding at Bishop State.
Matt was a loving, funny guy who never met a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his friends, and his keen sense of humor kept them laughing. He was a huge Alabama football fan, and he loved shooting hoops and fishing.
The most profound influence in Matt’s life was his Christian faith and his assurance of God’s love. His favorite Bible verse was Luke 1:37, For with God nothing shall be impossible.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 28, 2015, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Elmwood Chapel with funeral services at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama, 1009 Dauphin Street, Mobile, AL 36604. It is truly a place of salvation.
