

Melvin Jack Hudson, 94, of Hoover passed away February 7, 2018. Born in Jay, Florida to Perry Hudson and Ada Booker Hudson, he attended Phillips High School before joining the U.S. Navy, serv¬ing in the Pacific aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid CV 11 in WWII, and in the Korean Conflict. After a long career in industrial sales, Melvin enjoyed a long retirement of travel, family fun, and Friday night dancing. A long-time member of Fairview Methodist Church, he was a man of deep faith. He has gone to join siblings Haimon and Lamar Hudson, Vela Hudson Polk and Eva Hudson Jenkins. His memory will be cherished by daughters, Sandra Hud¬son (Jack Bergstresser) and Joyce Hudson (Ned Mudd); grand¬daughter, Alecia Berstresser; grandson, Roland Bergstresser; great-grandsons, Darian Moore and Ethan Bergstresser; great-granddaughter-of-his-heart, Genesis Rodriguez Moore, many lov¬ing nieces and nephews, and beloved friends. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Alacare Hospice whose loving and compassionate care provided great solace to us all during this dif¬ficult time. Visitation is at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. A brief graveside service will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to “Three Hots and a Cot”, a Birmingham 501(c)(3) assisting homeless veterans to transition from life on the streets into a self-sustained lifestyle. www.cotsforvets.org
