

Melvin Reynolds, age 90, passed away December 2, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Letha Reynolds; wife Mildred Reynolds and sister Odessa Jones. He is survived by his children Joyce Tippen (Les), Susan Brunson (Carl) and Robert Reynolds (Beth); sister Nancy Turza (Ted); grandchildren Scott Tippen (Alayna), Nicole Mezrano (Jimmy), Dr. Brian Brunson (Joy), Clay Brunson (Jennifer), Kyle Reynolds (Melanie), Kristen Henderson (Keith), Russell Reynolds and twelve great-grandchildren. He graduated from Ensley High School and attended Birmingham Southern College. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. After World War II, he began his long career as a surveyor with U.S. Steel and Southern Railroad and established Reynolds Surveying Company in 1959. He was also a land developer and a homebuilder. His company was a long time member of the Greater Birmingham Association of Homebuilders. He served on the Jefferson County Planning Commission for 8 years. He was a Little League Baseball Fan. He began coaching Little League Baseball in Bluff Park. He was one of the founders of Shades Mountain Park and coached one of the first games played there. He was a member of Hunter Street Baptist Church. The family would like to thank all of his neighbors for their support and love and a special thanks to Shelby for her friendship. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 5, 2016 from 1-2pm at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life following at 2pm.
