Michael was born in Germany on January 15, 1965. At a young age, he was adopted by Edward & Mila Cox while they were stationed in Germany. Thanks to his father, Michael grew up with a deep love for music. He learned to play the trumpet in his early years and had the opportunity to use his talent to play in his high school marching band as well as blessing others throughout his life by playing for various public occasions. In his younger years, he also earned the honor of becoming an Eagle Scout with Boy Scouts of America.
Three years after graduating from George Washington High School in 1983, Michael served as a field medic in the United States Army for two years where he has said one of the biggest highlights of his time in the service was firing a round from a Bradley tank. By 1995, Michael graduated from Chattahoochee Valley Community College with an associate’s degree in criminal justice & he graduated from the Columbus Police Academy. Afterwards, he served Columbus, Georgia for 14 years as a police officer. In July of 2014, Michael earned his funeral director license and started at White Chapel - Greenwood Funeral Home in Montgomery and was working with Dignity Memorial at Johns Ridout’s Mortuary Elmwood Chapel in Birmingham for the last several years. He valued serving in his local church as he participated on the worship team and camera crew at Church of the Highlands. Socially, he prioritized staying active in the Filipino American Association of Columbus, Georgia since 1997, and he thoroughly enjoyed playing on bowling leagues in his adult years as an avid bowler.
Michael is survived by his two daughters, Kristina Wuerth and Karoline Peterson and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Edward and Mila Cox, and his sister Simone Cox.
Friends and members of the community are invited to join Michael’s surviving children for a celebration of life service at Dignity Memorial at Johns Ridout's Mortuary Elmwood Chapel located at 800 Dennison Ave SW in Birmingham, Alabama on January 30, 2025, at 10 am, followed by the interment of his urn at Alabama National Cemetery at 2 pm.
