Mildred Diane Boss was born April 21, 1950 in Birmingham, AL. A long-time resident of Columbus, GA, Diane considered both Columbus and Birmingham as “home.” Diane was a very well-educated woman, earning a Bachelor’s degree from Auburn University and a Master’s and Specialist’s degree from Columbus State University.
Diane was a distinguished educator who taught in the Muscogee County School District (GA) for over 34 years. Diane proudly served as a master teacher and mentor to her students and her fellow teachers at Talbotton Road Junior High School, Marshall Middle School, and Jordan Vocational High School.
After her retirement, Diane became involved with the Muscogee Retired Educators Association where she served as President while continuing to devote her time to the needs and concerns of teachers. In retirement, she became a staunch traveler whose adventures took her throughout the country and around the world. As she traveled, one of her great loves was getting lost in the written word.
She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father, Mary Jane & Joe Boss. She leaves behind many close friends in Columbus, GA: Carmen & Joe Morris, Betsy Ostrander, Jan Whitaker, Kay Tyler, and Leigh Cook. She had a very close-knit family of first cousins in Alabama: Becky Brown, Angus & Joann Brown, Melissa & Phil Mims, and Bobby Brown. She will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 13th at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Ave SW, Birmingham, AL from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a graveside service to follow.
