Ramona Pherabie Washburn died peacefully on December 28, 2019 in Hoover, AL. Mona was born on June 4, 1938 to Earl Dowers and Vera Leoma (Brumbeloe) Washburn. She became the first member of her family to graduate from college, and earned a Ph.D. in physical education from the University of Alabama in 1975. In the early 1970s, she served on the faculty at Samford University in Birmingham, before embarking on a long and successful career in business, including many years at Alabama Labels and Graphics. Mona was predeceased by her parents and by a brother, Earl Derward. She is survived by a brother Timothy Alvie Washburn, a sister Anita Dian Jeffries, nephew David Washburn, nieces Karen Thaxton and Tonya Carter, and many great-nephews and great-nieces. Her family, lifelong friend Remelle Davis and a host of other dear friends will miss their Precious Mona while remembering her life and legacy.
