
.KILGORE, MYRTLE M. Our dear mother, Myrtle Lena Montgomery Kilgore, died September 9, 2011. Her birth date was June 15, 1914. Mother was a life-long resident of the City of Irondale, serving the community in many ways. A few of her accomplishments included serving as PTA present, and being instrumental in establishing the first library for the City. As a member of the Irondale United Methodist Church for more than 70 years, she held various offices in her church. After the death of our father, she enjoyed working at Positive Maturity, where she started a senior citizen's center in Irondale which is actively contributing to the lives of senior there. She was elected to the Irondale City Council, serving for twelve years. One of her first priorities was presenting a proposal to the City Council to establish this center for the older citizens of the City. Politics was not new to Mother, as her father, the late Lewis A. Montgomery was Justice of the Peace for many years, and service one term as mayor of Irondale. Mrs. Kilgore was predeceased by her husband, the late James Hubert Kilgore, who served a mayor of Irondale for a 15-year period. He resigned to successfully seek election to the Alabama House of representatives. She was also predeceased by her grandson, Michael Hubert Conway. She is survived by one son, Fred Lewis Kilgore (Gay) of Birmingham, Joyce Kilgore Hood of Jacksonville, Florida, and Janice Kilgore Conway of Birmingham. Grandchildren include Lori Gather (Chris), Natalie Lyn Bell of Jacksonville, Florida, Sherry Spurlock (Rick), Lisa Barnett (Greg) both of Atlanta, Georgia, David Kilgore. Her great-grandchildren are Megan Mills, Madison Gaither, Maci Gaither all of Birmingham, Ben Duvall, Breanna Duvall, Becca Duvall, Braea Spurlock, Matthew Spurlock, Adison Spurlock all of Atlanta, Georgia, and John Parker Bell of Jacksonville, Florida. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren are serving as her pall bearers. Mother was greatly loved and appreciated by many persons, but most especially, we, her children and our families loved being with her, and will miss the warmth of her loving nature. The family would particularly like to thank Judy and Serita of St. Martin's in the Pines for their kindess and love shown to our mother. Visitation will be Monday evening, September 12, 2011, from 6 til 8 PM at Ridout's Trussville Chapel with funeral services in the chapel, Tuesday at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. >>
