Born February 10, 1941, in Birmingham, Alabama to Hugh Ward McCain and Helen Marie McCain. She battled cancer and passed away on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025. Pat was raised in West End and was a graduate of West End High School. She married the love of her life, Robert Thomas Brooks Sr. on July 27, 1961 and soon thereafter started a family. Pat was a long-time member of Pinson Methodist Church and loved the Lord and drew strength from her faith in God throughout her life.
She loved her backyard, gardening, reading, pottery, painting, and raising a family. She supported her husband, Robert, throughout his career in law and pharmaceutical sales. Pat made a home that was truly a retreat, a fortress, and adventure for many, not just her own children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Sometimes it was referred to as “Grand Central Station” – with neighbors and neighborhood kids enjoying the home when her own kids were grown. The backyard was always beautiful with flowers, shrubs, trees, birds, and was the family sanctuary. Pat worked for many years with her brother Mike McCain who owned and operated Southland Electric Company. She loved Mike and her brother Butch immensely, she loved family and friend gatherings, and was a Rock for them all. She would tell you her greatest joy and accomplishment were her children.
Patricia is survived by her three children – daughter, Rebecca Derivaux (Dr. Donald Joseph Derivaux), son, Brig. Gen. Robert Thomas Brooks Jr., Ret. USAF (Aprile), and son, Michael Brian Brooks; brother, Mike McCain (Joy); sisters-in-law, Ramona Reese and Kay Brooks; grandchildren, Rachel Derivaux, Katherine Derivaux, Sarah Elizabeth Derivaux, Caroline Bezouska (Jachym), Patrick Brooks (Hannah), Nathan Brooks, Laura Brooks McCoy (Cain), and great grandchildren, Zoey, Eli, Jalen, Ava, Lucas, and Thomas; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Thomas Brooks Sr., an infant son Patrick Brooks, a 7 year old grandson, Donny Derivaux, Jr. – “Little Donny”; brother, Hugh Ward “Butch” McCain Jr., brothers-in-law, Olin Brooks, Paul Brooks, John Reese, Bill Simpkins, sisters-in-law, Joan Brooks and Martine Simpkins.
