

Born on February 15, 1933, in Danville, Alabama, Peggy was a 1951 graduate of Ensley High School. She built a successful career with the Internal Revenue Service, where she dedicated 35 years before retiring. Peggy and her husband, Bill Maddox, were married for 60 years and resided in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, where they were well known for serving their community. Peggy spent much of her post-retirement time devoted to community service for numerous Vestavia organizations.
Peggy was known for her love of laughter and people. She found her greatest joy in spending time with family and friends. A woman of faith, Peggy attended Vestavia Hills Methodist Church for many years and most recently attended Sun View Baptist Church in Pelham, Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William F. Maddox, and her parents, Mozell and Gordon Lowery. She is survived by her sister, Mary Savage; nephews Steve Savage (Laura) and Don Savage (Jamicia); as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews, great grand-nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on March 14, 2025, at Elmwood Chapel, located at 800 Dennison Avenue SW in Birmingham, Alabama. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:30 p.m.
Peggy’s warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
