Robert Joseph Yost, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed on September 25, 2020. He will be missed. Born March 10, 1930, in Mitchell, South Dakota, Bob was one of fifteen children. His upbringing in an exceptionally large family in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, taught him the warmth and patience he demonstrated his entire life. Robert left home at 17 to serve in the United States Army Air Corps in the Korean War, honorably serving in that theater for several years. On returning home, he met—and six weeks later married—his wife of more than half a century, Darrell Dean Coley Yost. The two had one child, Mike, of whom Bob was very proud. After retiring from the Army, Bob worked as a printer for more than twenty-five years, eventually founding his own company, Prime Printing. He owned and operated Prime until his retirement. Bob was a Mason for many years, enjoying the fraternity he encountered there all his life, and was an avid chef and tinkerer, passions he shared readily with his family and friends. Following his son’s marriage to Allyne Yost, Bob’s later years were spent doting on and involved with his two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Michael. He spoke with Allyne, Elizabeth, and Michael daily, and the family’s Sunday dinners were the highlight of the week. Life will not be the same without Papaw. Bob is preceded in death by his wife, his son, and most of his siblings. He is survived by his sisters Lorraine Pickard and Leona Radke, by his nephew Chuck Pickard and niece Susan DeWitt, and by his daughter-in-law and grandchildren. His kindness and goodwill will not be forgotten.
