With heavy hearts and profound reverence, we announce the peaceful passing of Mrs. Ruby Mae Morris on October 1, 2023. Surrounded by the gentle embrace of her family home in Vestavia Hills, AL, Ruby took her last breath in the cherished company of her beloved daughter, Cynthia McCombs, and son, Donald McCombs.
Born under the summer sky on August 5, 1927, Ruby blossomed in Tony, AL, as the daughter of Woodard and Willie (Grandma) Morris. Her life’s journey intertwined with William McCombs, with whom she built a life and welcomed two radiant children. A beacon of care and compassion, Ruby dedicated her professional life as a registered nurse at University Hospital (now UAB). Further illuminating her path of altruism, she served the community as a public health nurse. Even after her retirement, her innate nurturing spirit led her to spend time comforting the elderly. Her kindness was a consistent solace to many.
A connoisseur of nature's beauty, Ruby found serenity in her gardens. Whether nurturing her vibrant flowers or cultivating her annual vegetables, her passion was evident. Among her floral treasures, her irises and roses held a special place in her heart. Her faith journey was steadfastly anchored at the Lakeside Baptist Church.
Ruby now joins her adored husband, William McCombs, and brothers, Orville (Betty), Thomas (Sue), John (Doris), Buford (Carman), Othel, Woodard Jr. (Margie), and Lester (Ire ne) Morris, in eternal rest. She leaves behind a legacy in her daughter, Cynthia; son, Donald; sister-in-law, Susan Morris; grandsons, Quinton (Andrea) and Johnny (Michelle); great-grandson, Zachary; extended family, Mile Nerud (Rachel) and Stephanie Bright; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
