Ruth Yoast Cataldo
16 abril , 1927 – 22 noviembre , 2021
Ruth Yoast Cataldo left this earth peacefully from her home on November 22 at the age of 94. She was born in Florence, Alabama in 1927, moved to Birmingham as a young teen and has remained in the Birmingham area ever since. As a young girl she worked at Bechtel McCone & Parsons as a mail girl on bicycle during WWII. That’s where she met John, who stole, uh, borrowed her bicycle, but he for sure stole her heart and she retaliated by marrying him!
She and John built the home she has lived in for the past 64 years. She has been an active member of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church since 1962, serving in the bereavement ministry, senior lunch events, and enjoying bunko with her friends. Being a master seamstress, she didn’t hesitate to comply when Mother Angelica asked her to make draperies for the monastery in Irondale, which soon became EWTN Global Catholic Television Network. Ruth loved people and didn’t know how to be a stranger to anybody. You could always see her in conversation at the grocery with a person she didn’t know and would probably never meet again. Preceded by her husband of 50 years, John Phillip Cataldo, and son, Don Phillip Cataldo, she is survived by her two daughters, Linda Cataldo Dlugosz and DeAnna Marie Cataldo; grandchildren, John Savarese, Cari Field, Elena DiBenedetto, and Lesley Ann Goins; and 3 great grandchildren, Brandon Savarese, Lauren Field, and Megan Field. Her funeral Mass will be held at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Birmingham, Al. 2:30pm on December 6, 2021 preceded by visitation at 1:30pm
