
Scott Preston Smith, age 44, died in Birmingham, Alabama on May 12, 2014. He was born on February 18, 1970 in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from Mountain Brook High School and attended Auburn University. He was raised in the Baptist church. He was a gifted athlete, artist and writer. One of his greatest gifts was in culinary arts where he was the head chef and owner of local restaurants over his career. He was named one of the 2003 Star Chefs of Birmingham. His philosophy was "know your craft, be well versed and you will find your niche." He was a one of a kind person with a sense of humor that would leave you in stitches. He was magnetic and people were drawn to him, loved by all who knew him well. He was preceded in death by his mother, Harriet Ray Smith, grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Romaine Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Fornice Preston Ray. He is survived by his son Preston Alexander Smith, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Ronald Smith, one brother, Shawn Hagan Smith, one sister, Melissa McMurray and her husband Daniel Harrington McMurray, nieces Hagan Ann Smith, Harriet Dillon Smith, Collins Virginia McMurray, nephews, Jack Harrington McMurray and Daniel Hamilton McMurray.. A private graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on Friday May 16, 2014. Friends and family are invited to come to a visitation held on Friday May 16, 2014 at 12 noon followed by a memorial service at 1pm at Brookwood Baptist Church 3449 Overton Road Mountain Brook, Alabama 35223. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brookwood Baptist Church for True Vine Ministries.
