Shirley Kilpatrick Burns, 95, passed away on March 18, 2024. Shirley was born on September 6, 1928 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Paul and Doris Kilpatrick; both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Burns, Sr. Shirley leaves behind her children, Linda Logan and Robert Burns, Jr; grandchildren, Lisa Logan, Greg Logan, and Alex Logan; and great grandchildren, Lorelei, Evie, and Elliott Logan.
Shirley attended Shades Valley High School and Birmingham Southern, where she majored in Journalism. In 1951, she married the love of her life, Robert and together they raised 2 children. Robert proudly serviced in the military and while he was deployed in Korea, she stayed with her parents. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, and homemaker. She was devoted to the care of her home and family. She loved to do any kind of crafts and sewing. Shirley enjoyed many activities at Dawson Memorial Church, especially the trips that the Senior group would go on.
The family would like to thank all of the hospice caretakers who lovingly cared for Shirley.
In lieu of flowers, Shirley’s family suggests making memorial donations to any humane society or animal shelter.
There will be a celebration of Shirley’s life on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 2pm at Elmwood Cemetery.
