
Thomas Stephen McCollister, 74, of Trussville, passed away on September 2, 2022, in Birmingham. Memorial services will be held Monday, September 12, 2022, at Clearbranch Methodist Church, 8051 Glenn Road, Trussville, Alabama 35173. Visitation is at 10am and a celebration of life will begin at 11am. Tom was born in Prattville, Alabama, to James and Mae McCollister on August 21, 1948. He was a graduate of Phillips High School in 1966 before attending the University of Alabama. Tom married Lynne Simpson on December 27, 1969, at Boyles Methodist in Tarrant City. He served as an accountant at various accounting firms before helping establish the Boys and Girls Club of Central Alabama in the Clay/Chalkville area. He had a love for baseball and enjoyed serving as the president of Center Point Ballpark, state president of Dizzy Dean, as well as coaching and assisting various teams for many years. Tom was later an active member of the Hewitt Junior High Athletics. He was a long-time member of Huffman United Methodist and Clearbranch United Methodist. More recently Tom was truly enthusiastic about spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and his beloved dog, Lily. Tom is preceded in death by parents, James Letcher McCollister and Mae Bushard McCollister and brothers, Kenneth Beam and James McCollister. Tom is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lynne Simpson McCollister and son, Michael McCollister (Mary Helen) of Needham, Massachusetts and grandchildren Gordon, Mary Varden and Caroline; daughter, Jenny McCollister Auvil (Jeremy) of Trussville, Alabama and grandchildren James and John; son, Mark McCollister (Ashley) of Chelsea, Alabama and grandchildren Smith and Ford. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Grammas of UAB Geriatrics, Dr. Krishna of UAB Nephrology, and the staff and nurses at Ascension Home Health and UAB Palliative Care.
