Virginia Teresa Tuggle was born October 12, 1949 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Chester Tuggle and Virginia Abernathy Tuggle. Teresa died March 29, 2022 at her home in Hoover, Alabama of complications related to Alzheimer’s with her loving husband of 49 years by her side.
Teresa spent her early years in Aliceville, Alabama and finished growing up in Winfield, Alabama. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1968. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education, with a Home Economics major, from Jacksonville State University in 1971. While in high school she performed as a Majorette and in College she was part of the Marching Southerners as a Flag Girl.
She married Daniel Clyde Wilson (Danny) in Winfield, Alabama on February 24, 1973. Teresa worked for the Midfield School System as a Lunchroom Supervisor and Nutritionist during her early married years and later accepted a position with Alabama Power as a Home Service Advisor. When her children came along, she was a full-time mother, homemaker and wife. She and Danny moved from Dothan, Alabama to Jefferson City, Missouri to Montgomery, Alabama, while raising their three children, Amanda Teresa, Matthew Daniel, and Meredith Leigh.
They settled in Hoover in 1988 where they established their existing homestead. When her oldest daughter went to college, Teresa expanded her ministry to the children of Saint Mark’s UMC pre-school. She taught Spanish to the children and was affectionately known as Senora Wilson. Teresa spread joy wherever she went. Notably she was a devoted wife, mother, and friend to many. She exuded southern charm and elegance while remaining humble. For these and many other reasons, she will be missed by many family and friends. Her legacy lives on through her husband, children and grandchildren.
Her family wants to express their deep appreciation for her daily caregivers, Deb Little and Carrie Davis and to the hospice team at Aveana Five Points.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel Clyde Wilson, brother, Tim Tuggle (Wanda), daughter, Amanda Wilson Jowers (Jason Wilson Jowers – 17, Katherine Leigh Jowers – 15), son, Matthew Daniel Wilson (Matthew Daniel Wilson, Jr. – 18, Caroline Elaine Wilson – 14) and daughter Meredith Wilson Street (husband, William Neville Street, Jr., Elizabeth Claire Street – 13, Shelby Leigh Street – 11).
She is preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Abernathy Tuggle and her father, Chester Tuggle.
Friends and family are invited to attend the service Friday, April 1st at Riverchase United Methodist Church with visitation at 9:00 and a celebration of life at 10:00.
