Larry was born March 7, 1938, to the late William James Davies and Hannah Meadors Davies in Birmingham, Alabama. He grew up in Inglenook, Alabama and was a graduate of Phillips High School. He continued his education at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama.
He retired from the 117 Alabama Air National Guard as a Master Sargeant after 27 years of service to our country including an overseas deployment to France during the Berlin crisis. His 40+ year career as a draftsman began at American Bridge and continued until he retired from Engle & Associates.
His favorite car was his red ’57 Chevrolet. He loved all University of Alabama sports (especially Crimson Tide Football), bass fishing, dancing, music, and deer hunting. He was NOT a fan of any Auburn University sports (Roll Tide!). He shared his love of sports as a little league boys’ baseball and girls’ softball coach as well as playing adult softball for many years.
Larry began an over 55-year fun-filled marriage and adventure when he married the love of his life, Anita Elizabeth Colson in 1969. He is survived by his children Billy Davies (Sandy), Cheri Haynie, Cindy Davies, Dax Davies along with multiple grandchildren (Josh, Austin, Brooke, Lindsey and Justin) and great-grandchildren; brother James Edward Davies (Judy) and sister, Peggy Sue Freeman (Tommy); plus, many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Larry's memory to the American Cancer Society (www.donate.cancer.org).
