William (Bill) E. Dean, Jr, age 79, died September 27, 2016 at his home in Birmingham, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. William E. Dean and Idaline P. Dean. Survivors include his wife of 47 years Norma Goodwin Dean, daughters Wendy Dean Petruzzi (Peter) of Knoxville, TN, and Betsy Dean McGriff (Scott) of Birmingham. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Ethan and Owen McGriff, who were the joys of his life and his feline companion, Captain. While Bill was at home, the Dean family was blessed to have help from loving caregivers, Lorain and Jenetta, and Comfort Care Hospice. Bill was born in Rogersville, AL in 1936. He graduated from Guntersville High School and Birmingham Southern College. He served in the Army Reserve and then worked nearly 30 years at Jefferson Federal Savings and Loan. Since his retirement, Bill has enjoyed traveling with his wife, fishing, volunteering with church activities, and supporting his grandsons in all of their activities. Visitation will be Friday September 30, 2016 at Saint Mark United Methodist Church in Vestavia Hills from 10:00-12:00, with the celebration of life service to start at noon. Following the service at Saint Mark, internment will be at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Saint Mark United Methodist Church in Vestavia Hills.
