Sergeant WyTasha Lamar Carter, affectionately called “WyT”, was born November 13, 1974 to Mr. Ronald and Mrs. Brenda Carter in Birmingham, Alabama. WyTasha was the first born of three. As he grew, it wasn’t long before you encountered his invigorating intelligence, witty personality, natural leadership qualities and compassionate spirit. He was a high achiever and loved serving others.
As a child, Sergeant Carter attended Mt. Hebron Baptist Missionary Baptist, ACIPCO where the late Joseph Washington Croom, Sr. was the esteemed Pastor. He and his family later united with Souls Harbor Deliverance Center Church under the leadership of the late Apostle Nancy Laster. He gave his life to Jesus at an early age and was filled with the Holy Spirit. He was a licensed Minister and served as a Youth Pastor.
Sergeant Carter was educated in the Birmingham City School System and graduated from John Herbert Phillip High School in 1993. He attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia where he studied Pre-Law. In 1996 he joined the United States Air Force. After basic training he was stationed at Offutt AFB in Omaha, Nebraska. While serving in the military he met his wife of 21 years, Mrs. Tiphanie Phelps Carter.
Sergeant Carter joined the Birmingham Police Department on July 18, 2011. Prior to joining the Birmingham Police Department, Sergeant Carter worked as a Corrections Officer at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department Omaha, Nebraska (1997-2000); Corrections Officer at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department Shelby County, Alabama (2000-2002); Police Officer in Leeds, Alabama (2002-2007); and Police Officer in Fairfield, Alabama (2007-2011).
Sergeant Carter demonstrated loyalty, devotion and an impressive work ethic as a public servant. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on February 17, 2018.
He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife, Mrs. Tiphanie Carter, two children, Dashae Box Carter and Taelen Lamar Carter; loving parents, Ronald and Brenda Carter; a brother, WyKio Carter (Korliss) and a sister, WyTeria Washington (Marcus); a special aunt, Angela Tell; a mother-in-law, Annette Hollis (Shelly), a father-in-law, James Hawthorne; three brother-in-laws, James Katt Williams, Nashville, Tennessee, James Phelps, Birmingham, Alabama and David Phelps, Omaha, Nebraska; three sister-in-laws, Saville Hawthorne, Lydia Hawthorne and Joyce Hawthorne; four nieces, Juakia Stearnes Carter, Veronica Washington, Victoria Washington and Vaniyah Washington; four uncles, Jerry Carter of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Kenneth Tell, William Johnson, Joe Harrison, Jr. (Elizabeth) all of Birmingham, Alabama; two aunts, Angela Tell, Pamela Spencer and Cassandra Johnson; four great-aunts, Clara Ware, Aurelia Tell, Minnie Tell and Joan Mines; best friend, William White (Anetra); special brother, Pastor Melvin Strong, III (Yolanda); four special cousins, Tranette Johnson (Darnell), Antonio Tell (Marcella), Antoine Tell (TaKendra) and LaShawn Tell; and the Tell family Matriarch, Sharon Magby; a host of loving family and friends.
