

Carolyn Nan (Weir) Thompson, age 85, of Bloomington, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011 in Bloomington. She was born April 9, 1925 in Prairie Creek, Vigo County, Indiana the daughter of E.T. Weir and Grace (Watson) Weir. The family moved to Bloomington in 1928 where her parents operated Weir Funeral Home until World War II. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers; William Franklin Weir, Major Charles Weir and Warren Weir and her son, Eric J. Thompson. She is survived by her husband, James F. Thompson; one son, Col. George C. Thompson and a granddaughter, Joanna Thompson, along with surviving members of University School, Class of 1942.
She attended Fairview and McCalla schools, University School and Indiana University. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and the Quill and Scroll sorority. She was a staff member of the “Quad” and wrote a column of school news for the Daily Telephone.
During her married life of 63 years, as an Army wife she lived in Japan, Germany and France and at numerous Air Force and Army stations in the United States, returning to Bloomington in 1965. She traveled widely and was a member of the “Trod the 24” (time zone clubs) and Bloomington Sexton Ballroom Dance club.
She worked as a saleslady at the King’s Shop and the Vogue in Bloomington, as a library assistant at I.U., as a poll taker for Lou Harris Polling Service, and as an assistant in her husband’s law office. She was a member of North Central Church of Christ.
Day Funeral Home in Bloomington is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation or services.
