Doug graduated from Bloomington South High School and went on to dedicate many years of service to IU Food Service, where he built lasting friendships and was known for his steady work ethic and dependable nature.
Family was the center of Doug’s world. He is survived by his son, Ross Parker (52), and Ross’s wife, Amanda; his daughter, Shannon McGlothlin (49), and her husband, Roger; and his beloved grandson, Blake Newcomb (27), and Blake’s wife, Natalie (Alex). He also leaves behind his brother, Wyatt Parker (69), and his sisters, Patty Parker (67) and Joni Stanger (65), along with extended family and friends who will deeply miss him. He is also survived by his loyal companion, his 8-year-old cat, Bronco, who rarely left his side.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe Jr. and Pearl Parker; his grandmother, Maggie; and his siblings, Kenneth and Sheila.
Doug will be remembered for his quiet strength, devotion to his family, and the love he had for his grandson, who brought him immense pride and joy. He was also well known for his lifelong love of Coca-Cola, rarely seen without one in hand, a small but unforgettable part of his daily routine that will bring a smile to those who knew him whenever they see that familiar can. His presence, guidance, and steady spirit will be missed beyond words.
