

Clyde Elmer Ragan, 90, Bloomington, Indiana, died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at IU Health Bloomington Hospice House. He was born March 25, 1935, in Russiaville, Indiana, to Frank A. and Flora V. (Shirley) Ragan. On May 27, 1961, he married Alice Faye (Matthews), who survives. They were married for 57 years.
The youngest of ten children, Clyde was raised at Mooseheart Children’s Home in Kane County, Illinois. He arrived there at 15 months of age, along with several siblings. He was active in the Boy Scouts, and at age 15 became an Eagle Scout, scouting’s highest rank.
Clyde graduated from Mooseheart High School in 1953, and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1959. He worked at Continental Steel Corporation in Kokomo, Indiana, from 1959 to 1966 as an engineering technician. In 1966 he accepted a position as a machine designer at Delco, and retired from there in 1994 as a senior project engineer in advanced manufacturing systems development. He was a proud 45-year member of American Legion Post #317 in Greentown, Indiana.
He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Carmen and Greg Siering, Bloomington; a brother, Clarence Ragan, Sweetser; a sister, Katherine Kucharski, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Megan and Jeff Mansfield, Crystal Lake, Illinois; Jillian Davenport and Shawn Young, Mineral Wells, Texas; Patrick and Whitney Ragan, Terre Haute, Indiana; Ami Lackey, Myrtle Beach; Kristine and Wesley Squires, Myrtle Beach; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Clyde was preceded in death by his son, Kelly Ragan; three brothers; four sisters; and one great-grandchild.
Per Clyde’s wishes, no services are planned. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Greentown, at a later date.
