He was born on February 6, 1955, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Lloyd and Kathryne (Tracey) Bell.
David spent the majority of his life in Bloomington, moving there with his family when he was in first grade. He graduated in 1973 with the first graduating class of Bloomington High School North.
He began his career at PepsiCo in Bloomington, where he worked alongside his father for many years. David later worked for Monroe County Parks and Recreation, retiring in 2021 after 28 years of dedicated service. During his time with the parks department, he was involved in many projects, but he was especially proud of helping build and maintain the first soccer fields and the splash pad.
When he wasn’t working, David loved spending time outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life, especially enjoying deer and turkey hunting. On a nice day, he could often be found casting a line at Griffy Lake or Morgan-Monroe State Forest. He also had a deep love for motorsports — motocross was his favorite, though he enjoyed watching all forms of racing.
In his younger years, David was also a music lover. He attended more concerts than he could count, and if you stopped by his house, you were likely to hear rock or country music playing on his stereo.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Kathryne Bell.
He is survived by his daughter, Kara Oltman (Jared); his granddaughter, Mya Lawrence, whom he was immensely proud of and loved to brag about to anyone who would listen; his sister, Debra Wright (Rick); his niece, Jennifer Spangle; his nephews, Rick and Christopher Wright; and his best furry friend, Hank. He will be remembered by family and friends for his love, loyalty, life lessons, and words of wisdom.
A memorial will be held at a later date.
