Dorothy Mae Newton, 95, of Bloomington died Thursday, April 12, 2018 in I. U. Health Hospice House. She was born September 3, 1922 in Monroe County to John Barrow, Sr. and Vessie Hazel Barrow. She had worked for over 35 years at Sarkes Tarzian and then ST Semicon. On September 9, 1939 she married Joseph E. Newton and they enjoyed 49 years of being married until his death in 1988.
Survivors include her two daughters; Reba (husband Ronald) Terrell of Bloomington and Connie (husband Ron) Rollins of Solsberry, her sister; Eva Hollar, four grandchildren; Terri Mobley, Julie Burton, Ronda Richardson, and Ronald Joe Rollins, 11 great-grandchildren, 7 great great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son; Larry Ray Newton, her parents, four sisters; Edna Ridge, Lois Boruff, Ruth Gillham, and Betty Corbin; four brothers; Floyd Goodman, John Barrow, Jr., Oscar Barrow, and Leonard Barrow, a granddaughter; Kelly Whaley and two great-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was a member of Life Tabernacle in Springville. She also loved spending time with her family, gardening, fishing, mushroom hunting, and going on vacation.
There will be a gathering of family and friends on Monday, April 16, 2018 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St. Funeral Services are scheduled for Tuesday, April 17th at 12:00 PM in the funeral home with Pastor Stan Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
