Edna Ann Orr

Edna Ann “Teddy” Orr, age 78, died April 13, 2019 of pancreatic cancer at her home in Bloomington, Indiana. Born July 29, 1940 In Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Dr. Harold Charles and Martha Alice (Spall) Winckelbach and came from a long line of early Indiana settlers. She graduated from Manual High School in Indianapolis in 1958 and from Indiana University in 1962 with BA degree in English Literature. Teddy had a long, demanding , and productive career as a high school English and Journalism teacher, as a magazine writer, and as a consultant providing technical training material for the US Department of Labor and a number of state employment security agencies. After many years living and working in Colorado she returned to Indianapolis to accept a position with National City Bank. This led to her earning a license as a registered stock broker and to a responsible position in the marketing department of Indianapolis-based American United Life Insurance Company. She retired from AUL in 2008 to marry a long-time friend, John L. Schaal of Denver, Colorado. Teddy was an avid skier, serving a term as President of the Indianapolis Ski Club, and skiing throughout the French and Italian Alps, Japan, Colorado and the mountain west. She and her husband John also traveled extensively in the United States, Mexico, the British Isles and Europe. Teddy is survived by her husband, John Schaal of Bloomington, by her son, Colin Orr, daughter-law Brenda Ibarra and her two much-beloved grandsons, James and Robbie all of Castaic, California. Also by Dr. J and Susan Winckelbach and their children, Dr. Wendy Lemoine, J Karl Winckelbach and Holly Stortz. A celebration of Teddy’s life will be held at her home in Bloomington on Sunday afternoon, July 28, 2019. Her cremated remains will be interred at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral in Denver, Colorado, with a burial ceremony to take place there at a time to be determined.
