

Everett Eugene “Gene” Taber, 83, of Bloomington, died Thursday, January 20th at Bloomington Hospital. Born March 10, 1927 in Bedford, Indiana, he was the son of Ennis Roy and Emma (Raney) Taber. On November 14, 1948, Gene married Martha Sue McClintock, and she survives. Gene was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific theater aboard Landing Craft Support Ship 106. The LCS ships were known as the Mighty Midgets, and provided support for the task force in route to the invasion of Japan. After his Navy discharge Gene attended Indiana University for electronics training, and was involved in the electronics field until shortly before his death. He was also an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife, Gene is survived by one daughter, Melody Ann Voland (Bill), of Nashville, Indiana; two sons, Kevin Foster Taber (Sherry), of Chandler, Indiana and Timothy Sean Taber (Rebecca), of Lake Wales, Florida. He is also survived by five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Other survivors include a sister, Frances Wilson, of Indian Harbor Beach, Florida and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, along with three brothers, Joseph Roy Taber, Ennis Roy Taber, and Murray Taber Raney, and one sister, Ruth Nasella. He was also preceded in death by one nephew, Jody Taber.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 25th, at Day Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Curtis Hurley officiating. Burial will follow in Covenanter Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Tuesday from 12 Noon to 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home
