Gavin Dean Frye, age 17, of Bloomington passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Wednesday (07/29/2020). Born October 7, 2002 in Bloomington, he was the son of Jackey and Toni (VanBuskirk) Frye. Gavin assisted his father with home repairs and maintenance. He especially loved roofing. He also was very intelligent, loved meeting new people and helping all people as well as exploring new places. He was an avid dirt bike rider and trickster on his BMX bicycle. In addition to his work, he loved golfing, working on his car, motorcycle and bike, grilling the perfect steak, fishing and spending quality time with his friends and family, especially his nieces and nephews.
Gavin is survived by his parents, of Bloomington, one brother, Gregory Dwight (Mercedes Aguilar-Perez) Frye, of Bloomington, his sister, Misty (Christopher) Epeards, of Bloomington, one nephew, Bryson Douthitt; two nieces, Natalee Epeards and Sofia Frye, maternal grandmother, Barbara VanBuskirk, of Bloomington, paternal grandfather, Eddie Frye, of Bloomington, maternal great-grandmother, Violet (Love) Cowden, of Greenwood, several aunts, uncles and cousins as well as many friends.
Gavin was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Tony VanBuskirk and his paternal grandmother, Lisa (Merriman) Frye.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home; 4150 E. Third St. Friends may visit the family on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in memory of Gavin may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
