Jackie Eugene Fiddler (Jack), age 87, of Bloomington passed away Friday, August 23, 2024 at home in Bloomington, IN. Born May 13, 1937 in Bedford, IN, he was the son of Louis and Jaunita (Brown) Fiddler. He attended Bedford High School and was always a hard worker working in several jobs beginning in his youth and eventually retiring after a 30-year career from Otis Elevator as a supervisor in the Machining and High-rise Gearless Machine Assembly. Jack proudly served in the Army and then the National Guard from which he retired as a Master Sargent in 1997; he was called back to help process military members deploying to and returning from military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan in the early 2000’s. Jack had fond stories of his National Guard service and kept in touch with many of the people he served with through the years.
Jack loved to keep busy whether it was attending the morning breakfast club to tell a few jokes or perform his Rodney Dangerfield routine, Friday night dinners with his siblings and friends, mowing his lawn, or caring for his various menagerie of sheep, donkeys, goats, and other animals through the years. Jack was always moving and could always be counted on for a laugh to brighten your day. The one activity Jack enjoyed the most, however, was spending time with his family and friends. There are many happy memories of family time in Bedford, Jack performing with his grandchildren (you never knew when a bugle might appear), trips to see children and grandchildren and eventually great-grandchildren around the country, dangling great-grandchildren on his knee, and just being surrounded by his greatest accomplishment, his family.
Jack is survived by two sons, Ron (Dawn) Fiddler of Morris, Connecticut and Mark (Raveena) Fiddler of Bloomington; eight grandchildren, Christopher Fiddler, Ryan Fiddler, Sam Willis, Benjamin Willis, Jason (Allysha) Fiddler, Nakita (Greg) Atkinson, Tyler (Mackenzie) Fiddler, and Clayton (Leticia) Fiddler and seven great-grandchildren.
Jack was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Janet Sue (Anderson) Fiddler in November 2023 and by one son, Michael Fiddler, in 1991.
A celebration of life funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2024 at Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home. Interment will follow with military honors at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 29, 2024 and one hour prior to the service on Friday at Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home.
