James B. Dollens, 74, of Solsberry died Wednesday, June 6, 2018 in I.U. Hospice House. He was born May 29, 1944 in Bloomington to Lawrence Tirey Dollens and Genevieve Lucille Wysong Dollens. He was retired from Indiana University where he was a carpenter/glazier. On July 8, 1967 in Cardington Ohio, James married Anita Miller and she survives him. Other survivors include a daughter, Melissa Jayne of Solsberry; two sons, Jared Dollens of Solsberry and Brett (wife Laurie) Dollens of Plainfield; three grandchildren, Korigan Jayne, Caleb Dollens and Samuel Dollens; three sisters, Melba Edwards of Bloomington, Barbara (husband Leroy) Merida of Bloomington and Kathryn (husband Steve) Cox of Greenwood; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Dollens and Lawrence “Sonny” Dollens; and a sister, Marilyn Harris. Memberships include Eastview Church of the Nazarene and the American Quarter Horse Association. James was a 1962 Graduate of Bloomington High School and attended Olivet Nazarene University before being drafted into the U.S. Army and serving in Vietnam with the Big Red 1 Infantry. In his retirement James enjoyed raising Quarter Horses. There will be a gathering of Family and Friends on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E Third St. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday at 1:00 PM also in the funeral home with Pastor Matt Upshaw officiating. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens with Military Honors given by the Monroe County Honor Guard.
