

John Wayne Collins, age 76, of Bloomington, died peacefully Sunday morning at his residence surrounded by his wife and daughters. Born May 31, 1937 in Bloomington, he was the son of John Calvin and Alice Louise (Moore) Collins. He was retired as a partner in Collins and Hillenburg Concrete Curb and was a former partner in Collins and Sullivan Concrete Curb. He had also formerly worked at Westinghouse and as a realtor for Gibbs and Doty Realty in Bloomington. He was a member of the Ellettsville Masonic Lodge and the Church of Christ, having attended the Indiana Ave. Church of Christ. He served as a communications officer in the United States Navy where he was awarded for having survived the harshness of the Alaskan wilderness. John loved horses all his life. As part of J.C. Farms, he was the very proud owner of the 1993 World Champion Paint Stallion, “Just Shameless”.
He is survived by his loving family; his wife, Judy Ann (Hagan) Collins, of Bloomington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Misti and Greg Smith, of Ellettsville and Holli and John Hillenburg, of Bloomington; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Richard Taylor and Rhea Dawn and Steve Lake, all of Bloomington, one brother, Tony Moore, of Bloomington; three granddaughters, Lyndsi (husband, Ricky) Bennett and Ciana and Livia Hillenburg; two grandsons, Evan and Ethan Smith; one great-grandson, Kaden Bennett; two aunts, Marie Weaver, of Bloomington and Patty Reeves, of Spencer, six nephews and many cousins. John is also survived by his dear friend Tim Lawson who has been like a son over the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, many aunts and uncles and one brother, Stephen Collins.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Day Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Pat Arthur officiating. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens where the Monroe County Veterans Honor Guard will provide military rites. Friends may visit the family on Friday at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m.
