Joseph Alan Young

Joseph Alan Young, of Carmel was born on January 17, 1953 in Beech Grove, IN to Sylvester E. “Gene” and Martha B. (Polley) Young. He passed away Saturday morning at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. On July 10, 1974 he married his high school sweetheart Sandra Kay Vinup in Ellettsville. They were looking forward to celebrating their 45th anniversary in the upcoming weeks. Joe graduated in 1971 from University High School, Bloomington, IN. He earned an Associates degree in Computer Technology in 1978 from Purdue University. Then in 1983, he earned his Bachelors of Science degree with a major in Pure Math and a minor in Physics, also from Purdue University. Joe had a long career as a computer analyst and retired from Hewlett-Packard in 2012. During retirement, Joe became a Master Gardener - Purdue University. He enjoyed his time working in his gardens. Joe and Sandy also enjoyed attending services at the Second Presbyterian Church of Indianapolis. Joe was preceded in death by his father Gene Young, one brother Tony Young, and his in-laws Curtis and Kathleen Vinup. He leaves behind his wife Sandy, of Carmel; his mother Martha, of Unionville; two brothers Robert (Pat) Young, of Columbus, IN and Frank (Tanya) Young, of Bloomington, one sister Emily (Grant) Stone, of Bloomington and one brother-in-law David (Diane) Vinup, of Avon, Indiana. He was loved by nieces and nephews David, John, Heather, Robert, Amber, Autumn, Joe, Patty, Stacy, Leslie, Trevor, Rachel, and Danielle, along with several great-nieces and great-nephews. Lastly, Joe leaves behind his and Sandy’s beloved cat Obadiah. The funeral service will be on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home; 4150 E. Third St. Burial will follow in Little Union Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to Open Door of Hamilton County.
