Kathryn E. Young

Kathryn E. Young, Bloomington, IN. passed away April 18, 2018. Born in Bloomington, she was the daughter of Earl and Bertha (Flick) Nikirk. She graduated from Bloomington High School in January 1941. She worked briefly at Goodyear Aircraft in Phoenix, AZ. and Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN. She then moved to Denver, CO. and worked at Englewood Savings and Loan. She accepted the position as Administrative Assistant to the Board of County Commission in Arapahoe County, Littleton, CO. for 18 years. She moved back to Bloomington to be near family and went to work at Hoosier Energy, R.E.C. as Executive Secretary to the President and C.E.O. and retired in 1986. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Bloomington. Kathryn is survived by two daughters, Teresa (Jerry) Betcke of Aurora, IL. and Myrna (Dannie) Walls of Bloomington, IN. Also surviving are four step-daughters Sharran (Don) Thompson of Bloomington, IN./ Tampa, FL., Christine (Tom) Gapinski of Englewood, FL., Lidora Daymude of Fort Mohave, AZ. and four step-sons Mark (Debbie) of Seattle, WA., Dan (Maureen) Young of Sedona, AZ., Andrew (Shannon) Young of Sedona, AZ. and Raymond (Karen) Young of Sanford, NC. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. She was blessed by her church family and caregivers, Fred and Laraine Cooksey, Wilma Wampler and Steve and Diane Wilkinson all of Bloomington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Young and step-son Robert Young. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Faith Lutheran Church, 2200 High Street at 12 o'clock with Pastors Edwards and Beck officiating. Burial will follow at Clover Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg, IN. and laid to rest by her husband. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until service time at Faith Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Faith Lutheran Church Building Fund or Olcott Cancer Center.
