 Obituario de LaVern Motley
LaVern Motley passed away on May 23, 2019. She grew up in Manchester, GA along with her four sisters. She was born on June 7, 1935, the daughter of the late Hardy and Jonnie Emma Ellison. LaVern was the valedictorian of her high school graduating class. She then attended Booker T. Washington Business College in 1956. She met Robert Motley in September of 1954 and they married on December 15, 1956. LaVern was a homemaker for 10 years then entered the workforce in 1968 as a teacher’s assistant for MCCSC. In the mid 70’s she started working at Stonebelt as a secretary, then after 18 years at Indiana University, she retired as the Executive Administrative Assistant of African-American Affairs. She was an avid I.U. football fan and held season tickets for 42 years. She enjoyed domestic and international travel with her husband Robert. She enjoyed gardening. The missionary committee at Second Baptist Church was also important to her. She was very devoted to her family, church and Bible study. LaVern is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert, her son Anthony “Bob”, daughter-in-law Jackie, 5 grand-children and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Terri LaVern Mattress, her granddaughter Shakaya Campbell, as well as her parents and four sisters. Visitation for LaVern will be held alongside her daughter Terri on Thursday, May 30, 2019 from 4-8 p.m. in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. 3rd St., Bloomington, Indiana 47401. The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 10:20 a.m. in Second Baptist Church, Bloomington with the Rev. Dr. Bruce Rose officiating. Entombment will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
