

M. Dean Deckard, Jr., age 66, of Martinsville, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023 at I.U. Health; University Hospital in Indianapolis. Born May 8, 1957 in Bloomington, Indiana, he was the son of Melvin and Barbara Jean (Morgan) Deckard. Dean served in the U.S. Marine Corps aboard the USS Nimitz-CVN68. He was retired but had been employed over the years as a driver of the “Uke” large dump trucks at Ralph Rogers Oard Rd. Quarry, a cook at Ladyman’s Café and later at the Burton Woolery Post #18 American Legion Post in Bloomington where he had been a member for 20+ years. Dean was currently a member of the Martinsville American Legion Post #230 where he was a former member of their Honor Guard. Earlier in his life, Dean loved riding motorcycles. He currently still loved to cook and riding horses.
Dean is survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Avelyn “Avi” Deckard, of Green Cove Springs, Florida, his companion, Mary Deckard, of Martinsville and one brother, Michael Deckard, of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Tony Mihilis and Paul Deckard.
