NANCY T. SAUNDERS, 78 Nancy T. Saunders, 78, of Bloomington, died at her home on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2012. Born September 21, 1934, in Pittsburgh, PA, Nancy was the daughter of John J. Trainor and Catherine Woiwode Trainor. She married Phillip Saunders on June 16, 1956, and their marriage was blessed with five children and ten grandchildren. A graduate of Bethel Park (PA) High School, Nancy pursued her college education on an intermittent, part time basis while working more than full time as an exceptionally loving wife, mother, and homemaker for an active and growing family. Her persistence was rewarded with a Batchelor of General Studies degree from Indiana University in 1985. In addition to being the organizer and Commander In Chief of the annual family vacation at Olgebay Park in Wheeling, WV, Nancy was an active member of First United Methodist Church. She was an exceptionally warm and caring person who volunteered in a wide variety of church and community activities. She was a member of the Phoebe Circle of the United Methodist Women; a past member and leader of the Bible Study Fellowship; an honorary active member of the Psi Iota Xi philanthropic sorority; a long time driver for Meals on Wheels; a volunteer in the Bloomington Hospital Gift Shop for over 25 years; a member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary; and a member of the Camerata Orchestra Guild. She was also very proud to be a member of the Almost Awesome Tennis Group. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her beloved husband of over 56 years, her mother in law Thelma Saunders Marker of Bloomington, two sisters Ann Arthurs of New Freedom, PA, Marcie Berk (husband Mark) of Wallingford, PA, one brother Jack Trainor (wife Kathy) of Pensacola, FL, sister in law Anne Bloxom (husband Bruce) of Carmel, CA, her children Kathleen McIntire of Alphareta, GA, Kevin Saunders (wife Marian) of Roswell, GA, Keith Saunders (wife Ann) of Carmel, IN, Kent Saunders (wife Chrissie) of Anderson, IN, Kristine Beyer of Plainfield, IN, and her grandchildren Rachel McIntire, Eileen McIntire, Amy Saunders, Laura Saunders, Kyle Saunders, Reed Saunders, Adam Saunders, Kelcey Saunders, Kendra Saunders, and Khloe Saunders. Visitation will be held at Day Funeral Home 4105 E 3rd St, Bloomington from 3:00 to 6:00 pm on Monday, November 26. A funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 27, with an additional opportunity for visitation one hour prior to the service. Entombment will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Shalom Community Center, P.O. Box 451, Bloomington, IN 47402.
