

Phillip R. “Phil” Davis, age 76, of Bloomington, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday evening at the I.U. Health; Bloomington Hospice House after a brave battle against cancer. Born October 8, 1937 in Bloomington, he was the son of Carl and Leona (Couts) Davis. He graduated from Unionville High School, Class of 1955, and was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, The Hoosier Hills Emmaus Community and Community Bible Study. He was formerly active as a volunteer with The Monroe County United Ministries (M.C.U.M.) He retired from Ameritech where he worked in construction and service.
He is survived by his loving family, his wife, Janice (Sluss) Davis, of Bloomington; three sons, Scott Davis (wife-Melinda), of Bloomington, Mark Davis (fiancé-Andi), of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Randy Martin (fiancé-Cheryl), of Solsberry; siblings, John Davis (wife-Beverly), Lois Walden, Keith Davis, and Harriett Pauley (husband-Maurice), all of Bloomington, seven grandchildren, Johnny Fleener, Rebecca Decker, Jeremy Davis, Andy Davis, Travis Martin, Heather Martin and Harper Davis and 13 great-grandchildren and another due to be born in October.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Davis and Leona (Couts) Davis May, his daughter, Cindy Martin, on May 16, 2013 and one brother, Robert Eugene Davis.
A gathering of friends and family will be on Tuesday (09/02) from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home; 4150 E. Third St. A celebration of life service will be held on Monday (09/08) at St. Paul United Methodist Church at from 5:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. with Pastor Frank VanAllen officiating. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul United Methodist Church or to M.C.U.M. c/o the funeral home.
