

Mr. Baxter retired from Allstate Insurance in 2000. He served in the United States Air Force in Berlin, Germany during the Cold War, where he translated Russian radio communications. He was a member of Berlin Island Association and former member of Toastmasters. Robert was a 1969 graduate of Indiana University, where he majored in Russian language. Robert enjoyed playing golf, spending time with family and friends and always had something to read. He loved a good book.
Born in Shelbyville, KY, January 2, 1941, Mr. Baxter was the son of James Baxter and Mildred Summers Baxter Whitaker.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, William and Thomas.
He is survived by two daughters, Tracy (Stew) Robinson of Lisle, IL and formerly of Bloomington, and Robbin (Michael) Cannon of Bloomington; five grandchildren, Isaia, Mekhi, Amani, Amire and Morgan; a great-grandson Dax; four brothers, Jesse (Daisy) Baxter, James (Joyce) Baxter, Ken (Chris) Baxter, Don (Candy) Baxter, all of Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Day Funeral Home in Bloomington, IN. Calling hours and visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. prior to the service.
