

Roger Lee Purcell, age 90, of Bloomington, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 31, 2024 at the I.U. Health Bloomington Hospice House. Born September 29, 1933 in Salem, Illinois, he was the son of Archie and Phoebe (Donahoe) Purcell. He worked as a cryptographer draftsman for the Indiana Geological Survey for 34 years. He worked prior to that for Texaco in Salem, Illinois. He enjoyed building houses, working with wood, travel and spending time with his sons assisting them with their projects. He was a member of the StoneRidge Baptist Church.
Roger is survived by his daughter, Karen L. Carmichael and her husband, Jack, of Bloomington; his two sons, Michael Purcell and Brian Purcell, both of Bloomington; three grandchildren, Jessica Carmichael, Jason Carmichael, and Jordan Huff, three great-grandchildren; five brothers, Johnny Purcell, Gerald Purcell, Jim Purcell, Larry Purcell and Carl Purcell, all of Salem, Illinois and many other beloved family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 69 years, Joyce Anita Purcell on December 11, 2021 and one daughter, Cynthia Huff.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home with Pastor Andy Gaschke officiating. Friends may visit the family on Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
