

Ruth Butcher, age 87, of Carthage, Tennessee, formerly of Bloomington, died Monday, August 16, 2010 in Carthage. She retired from Bloomington Hospital where she was a registered nurse. She loved gardening, flowers, sewing and embroidery. She was an avid reader and a member of Indian Hills Baptist Church in Gallatin, Tennessee. She graduated from the school of nursing at Perth Amboy General Hospital in Perth Amboy, NJ. She served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II in the 21st Hospital Evacuation Unit where she also met her husband of 49 years, Charles Leo Butcher. She served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Phillipine Islands. She and Charles attended together all of the re-union group meetings of the Hospital Evacuation Unit from W.W. II until his death in 1995. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Mike Rose.
She is survived by children, Janet Rose Young & husband Charley of Riddleton, TN, Gary Butcher & wife Debbie of Buffalo Grove, IL, David Butcher & wife Sharon of Troy, MI; one sister, May Sitar, of Tonton Falls, New Jersey; one brother, Carl Newmark, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and missed being a great-great grandparent by 48 hours. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Day Funeral Home with Rev. James Goodmon officiating. Burial will follow in Smithville Cemetery. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. & Thursday after 9 a.m.
